Palestinian President receives Eid al-Fitr greetings from Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Eid to start on Friday

 

RAMALLAH, March 18, 2026 (WAFA) – President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, received a telephone call on Wednesday evening from the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territory, and Chairman of the Supreme Fatwa Council, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, who congratulated him on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

The Grand Mufti wished the President continued health and well-being, to bestow goodness, guidance, honor, and empowerment upon the nation, and to allow the occasion to return to the Palestinian people with Palestine liberated from occupation.

President Abbas thanked the Grand Mufti for his Eid al-Fitr greetings and inquired about the conditions of our people in Jerusalem, who continue to face ongoing assaults by the occupation authorities. The President commended their steadfastness in the face of occupation practices.

President Abbas expressed hope that this occasion would return upon our people with the fulfillment of their aspirations for freedom, independence, and the establishment of their sovereign state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem announced on Wednesday evening that Thursday will mark the completion of the month of Ramadan, making Friday the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
