RAMALLAH, December 22, 2025 (WAFA) — The Central Committee of the Fatah movement held a meeting on Sunday evening in Ramallah, during which it discussed a range of political and organizational issues amid ongoing developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The committee reviewed the overall political situation, including Israel's ongoing war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, in violation of the ceasefire agreement. It also addressed the ongoing settlement expansion, the continued demolition of Palestinian homes across the West Bank, and repeated incursions into cities, towns, and refugee camps by Israeli occupation forces, particularly in Jenin, Tulkarm, Nour Shams, and Al-Far'a.
The committee further discussed Israel's seizure of thousands of dunums of Palestinian land, the construction of additional military checkpoints, and the closure of roads across the West Bank, including in occupied Jerusalem, with the aim of isolating it from its Palestinian surroundings. It also discussed the ongoing Israeli military raids that continue to result in the killing of Palestinian civilians.
Members of the Central Committee stressed the need to revive and develop popular resistance in all its forms and emphasized the importance of activating protection committees in various areas.
The committee underscored the importance of continuing efforts and practical steps to expedite the convening of Fatah’s eighth general conference, confirming that the preparatory committee for the conference will meet on December 23, 2025.
The Central Committee also affirmed that it is closely following the issue of Palestinian prisoners with all relevant authorities. In this context, it discussed the popular campaign to protect imprisoned leader Marwan Barghouti and all Palestinian prisoners, who it said are subjected to severe repression and neglect in violation of international law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The committee called on all political forces and national and grassroots groups to contribute to the success of the campaign and to support the prisoners’ cause as a central national priority.
