Several suffocate due to colonist attack south of Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, September 4, 2026 (WAFA) – Several Palestinians suffocated on Friday due to an attack by Israeli colonists in Khalet a-Nahlah, south of Bethlehem, according to local sources.

The sources said that colonists, backed by Israeli occupation forces, stormed the community and assaulted an inhabitant, compelling other inhabitants to intervene and try to drive them away.

They added that the gun-toting soldiers unleashed barrages of tear gas canisters and concussion grenades, resulting in several suffocation cases.

Colonists’ violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.

Colonists’ violence includes property and mosque arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, and attacks on vulnerable homes, among others.

Approximately 1 million Israeli colonists are living in colonies in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in violation of international law.
