51 Countries call on IAEA to provide urgent and long-term support to Palestine amid Gaza humanitarian crisis

RAMALLAH, November 20, 2025 (WAFA) –  Fifty-one countries, including Turkey, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and China, affirmed that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) can play a significant role in providing urgent and long-term assistance to the State of Palestine to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

This came in a joint statement on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, signed by the 51 countries during a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors in Vienna, and read by Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Vienna, Levent Eler.

The statement welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, calling on all parties to adhere to and implement it. It also expressed deep concern over the dire humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly in Gaza.

According to the statement, the amount of humanitarian aid entering Gaza is "significantly less" than agreed upon in the ceasefire agreement.

It added, "Given this deteriorating humanitarian situation, we believe that the IAEA can play a crucial role in providing urgent and long-term assistance to the State of Palestine to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza."

The statement called on the agency to contribute to meeting the urgent and long-term needs of the State of Palestine in the field of nuclear medicine, non-destructive testing, and assessment of soil, air and water pollution.
