Occupation forces issue demolition notices for homes and shops in al-Ram, north of Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, September 7, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces delivered demolition notices on Sunday morning targeting homes and commercial properties in the town of al-Ram, located north of occupied Jerusalem, according to local sources.

The sources reported that Israeli forces stormed the neighborhood of Ras al-Hayy and distributed demolition orders affecting three homes and four commercial shops, giving residents three days to comply. The pretext for the orders was construction without a permit—a justification frequently used by Israeli authorities to displace Palestinians in occupied areas.

The targeted area lies along the road connecting the Jaba' and Qalandiya checkpoints, a strategic corridor in the Israeli government’s plan to expand a settler-only highway around Jerusalem. The expansion is intended to link surrounding settlements while severing Palestinian neighborhoods from one another and from the city.

Palestinians and human rights organizations have long denounced Israel’s discriminatory building policies in occupied East Jerusalem and its surrounding areas, where building permits for Palestinians are rarely granted, forcing many to build without authorization. These policies contribute to a systematic effort to alter the demographic and geographic landscape in favor of settlement expansion.
