Tulkarem governor holds occupation responsible for killing of Palestinian after military vehicle rammed his car

TULKAREM, February 21, 2025 (WAFA) – The Governor of Tulkarem, Abdullah Kmail, held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the killing of a Palestinian resident from the town of Deir al-Ghusun. Resident Ahmad Riyad Awwad succumbed to critical injuries after an Israeli military vehicle rammed into his car in the city of Tulkarem, also injuring his wife.

In a press statement issued on Friday, Kmail slammed this crime as part of the ongoing series of crimes committed against the Tulkarem Governorate during 26 days of unprecedented aggression.

The Governor conveyed President Mahmoud Abbas's condolences to the family of Awwad, an academic, and wished a speedy recovery for his wife.

He emphasized that the occupation continues its crimes against civilians through destruction, sabotage, home demolitions in Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps and the forced displacement of the majority of residents.

He explained that an Israeli military vehicle, driving at high speed in the wrong direction, struck Awad’s car on Nablus Street near Tulkarem refugee camp. Awad and his wife sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Kmail reiterated his call for the international community and human rights organizations to take immediate action to halt the aggression against Tulkarem and its residents. He stressed that the occupation government blatantly disregards international humanitarian law, human rights conventions and all international treaties and norms.

The killing of Awwad raises the number of Palestinians killed during the ongoing Israeli onslaught against the Tulkarem governorate and its refugee camps, which has been ongoing for 26 consecutive days, to 12, including a seven-year-old child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant.
