RAMALLAH, February 11, 2024 (WAFA) – The French Consulate condemned the Israeli occupation police's raid on the Scientific Library on Salah al-Din Street in occupied Jerusalem, before issuing a decision to close it and detain its directors Ahmed and Mahmoud Mona.
The consulate considered in a statement on X that "these attacks on a prestigious library and cultural institution in Jerusalem constitute a flagrant violation of freedom of expression and basic democratic values."
Earlier yesterday, the Israeli occupation forces seized books and detained two brothers during their raid on the Scientific Library on Salah al-Din Street in occupied Jerusalem, under the pretext of "disturbing public order and selling inflammatory books", and seized books related to Palestine.
It is noteworthy that the occupation forces closed the Jerusalem Library in Khan al-Zeit market in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem a week ago, and detained its owner Hisham al-Akramawi on the same pretext of selling books described as "inflammatory".
