Foreign Ministry welcomes adoption of UNGA resolution affirming right of Palestinian people to self-determination

RAMALLAH, November 15, 2024 (WAFA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the adoption of a resolution by the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, which affirms the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, independence and freedom, as an inalienable and non-negotiable right that cannot be subject to conditions.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry said that 170 countries voted in favor of the resolution, including nations that have shifted their position to support this essential right, which serves as a cornerstone of the United Nations Charter.

The Ministry expressed its gratitude to the brotherly and friendly countries, as well as those that sponsored and supported the resolution, during a time when the Palestinian people are enduring genocide and ongoing violations of all their rights, including the right to self-determination.

It urged the countries that opposed the resolution to reassess their positions, particularly the six nations (Israel, the United States, Argentina, Paraguay, Micronesia and Nauru) that isolated themselves with their negative votes, urging them to align with the moral majority, in accordance with international law.

The Ministry underscored the importance of implementing the General Assembly's resolution, which endorsed the International Court of Justice's ruling on the illegality of the Israeli occupation. The resolution called for its immediate end and urged the cessation of violations against the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, ensuring their ability to exercise this right.
