JEDDAH, Saturday, July 13, 2024 (WAFA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (IOC) today condemned the Israeli occupation’s massacres at a displaced people’s camp in Khan Younes in the southern war-torn Gaza Strip.
The OIC decried the massacre as a part of the ongoing genocide inflicted by the Israeli occupation on Palestinian defenseless civilians in blatant defiance of the United Nation’s resolutions as well as the International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s rulings.
It renewed its call to the international community, particularly the UN Security Council (UNSC), to assume their responsibilities towards the need for an immediate and comprehensive cessation of the Israeli genocidal aggression against the Palestinian people.
Dozens of Palestinians have been killed and wounded in Israeli strikes on a displaced people's camp in the Mawasi district of Khan Younis, an area that Israel had reportedly designated a safe zone.
Gaza's health ministry said at least 88 Palestinians were killed in Saturday's attack, adding that 289 others were injured.
Israel has proceeded with its genocidal offensive on the war-torn Strip in complete disregard of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which ordered Israel in a legally binding decision to halt its military offensive in Rafah, which may violate its obligations under the Genocide Convention.
Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, killing at least 38,443 Palestinians and injuring over 88,481 others.
Moreover, at least 10,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.
Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
