Palestinian prisoner completes 20 years in Israeli prisons

RAMALLAH, Sunday, August 27, 2023 (WAFA) – Palestinian prisoner Yousef Atta Hamdan, 51, completes today 20 years behind Israeli prison bars, as he continues to serve a two-life sentence in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

PPS said Hamdan, who hails from the city of Jenin, was arrested by Israeli occupation forces on August 27, 2003. He was subsequently sentenced to two life sentences, and was denied the opportunity to bid a final farewell to his mother, who passed away while he was incarcerated.

The case of Youssef Atta Dhiaab Hamdan sheds light on the long-standing issue of Palestinian prisoners who endure extended periods of imprisonment under Israeli military occupation.

The prolonged detention of individuals like Hamdan raises questions about the legal and ethical implications of extended sentences without the possibility of parole or other opportunities for release.

The issue of Palestinian prisoners remains a focal point of discussions surrounding human rights and justice in Palestine, with advocates and supporters of the Palestinian cause continuing to call for greater attention to the rights and conditions of those imprisoned by the Israeli occupation.
