RAMALLAH, Thursday, August 06, 2020 (WAFA) – The explosion that rocked Beirut and the heavy toll in dead and wounded as well as the destruction and world reaction dominated the front-page headlines in today’s three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

While Al-Ayyam and al-Quds highlighted the death and injury toll, al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted President Mahmoud Abbas’ reaction to the catastrophe that befell Lebanon and his expression of support to Lebanon and its people.

The three dailies also highlighted the Palestinian reaction as well as printed side-line stories about the incident and its impact.

In other news, al-Quds said Israel demolished three buildings and a structure in Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem and took apart two rooms in Issawiyeh neighborhood.

Al-Ayyam said that Israeli settlers have also attacked Palestinians and their property in three different governorates in the occupied West Bank.

It said the Israeli occupation forces uprooted 100 palm trees in the Jiftlik, north of ancient city of Jericho in the Jordan Valley.

It said Palestinian families have taken shelter in caves in the West Bank after their homes and land were taken over for Israeli settlement expansion.

The paper quoted the United Nations humanitarian agency, OCHA, saying that Israeli plans to annex occupied territory and the coronavirus pandemic are the two main issues impacting the humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Regarding coronavirus, al-Quds said three Palestinians have died in the West Bank after contracting the disease and 353 new cases were recorded yesterday.

It said a Palestinian official has revealed information about contacts with Israelis to revive the peace process.

It said US Congresswoman of Palestinian descent, Rashida Tlaib, has won the Democratic Party’s primaries for her district.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Palestinian families have won the largest land fraud case in Jerusalem that involved over 11,500 dunums of land in al-Sawahre al-Sharqiya.
