Christian Groups Welcome Quakers’ Divestment from Firms Active in Israel

BETHLEHEM, September 26, 2012 (WAFA) -  Kairos Palestine Welcomed the recent decision of the Quakers Friends Fiduciary Corporation (FFC) to divest from Hewlett Packard and Veolia Environment, said a press release on Wednesday.

Hewlett Packard is providing information technology consulting services to the Israeli Navy. Veolia Environment, the world’s largest water privatization company, provides segregated water services to Israeli settlers in the occupied Palestinian Territory and runs a landfill in the occupied Jordan River valley.

After FFC divested from Caterpillar Inc. in May 2012, Kairos described Quakers step as a “courageous decision that demonstrates the Friend’s commitment to democratic rights and responsibilities as well as acts in solidarity for a just peace.”

“We, Kairos Palestine, believe in boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) as a nonviolent, peace-seeking and ethically consistent tool to bring the Israeli occupation accountable for all its crimes against the Palestinian people. Therefore we hope and pray that more churches will adopt the brave decision of the Quakers Friends Fiduciary Corporation as a role model,” said the release.

Kairos Palestine is an umbrella of several Christian organizations that support Palestinian fight for Independence.
