Palestine, Thailand to Launch Diplomatic Relations in August

BANGKOK, July 11, 2012 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad al-Malki declared a joint Palestinian-Thai agreement to launch diplomatic relations between Palestine and Thailand starting in August of 2012, Wednesday said a statement released by his office.

The announcement followed a meeting between al-Malki and Thailand’s Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon in the Thai capital Bangkok.

The foreign ministers agreed that Thailand would temporarily use its embassy in Jordan, while Palestine would temporarily use its embassy in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lampur, said the statement.

The Palestinian side expressed its wish to open an embassy in Bangkok if the Thai government facilitated needed support.

The meeting tackled the obstacles Israel put in the path of the Palestinian attempts to resume negotiations in accordance with the Quartet conditions, as well as addressed the regional status quo in the Middle East and the recent developments in Arab countries, added the statement.
