UK's Foreign Secretary says famine in Gaza is "man-made" imposed by Israel

LONDON, September 2, 2025 (WAFA) – British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said the famine in Gaza is "man-made," referring to the systematic starvation imposed by Tel Aviv on the Palestinians, expressing deep anger at the Israeli government's refusal to allow aid into the Strip.

In a speech during a session of the British Parliament on Monday evening, Lammy stressed the need for a comprehensive humanitarian response to prevent further death in the besieged Gaza Strip.

He added, "This is a man-made famine in the 21st century, and the Israeli government's refusal to allow adequate aid into the Strip is outrageous."

Lammy warned of a worsening famine in Gaza if the necessary measures are not taken, noting that more than 300 people, including 119 children, have died from malnutrition since July 1.

The Foreign Secretary announced that his country will provide an additional 15 million pounds in aid and medical care to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

He also noted that he is working to bring more wounded and critically ill children from Gaza to Britain for treatment.

Lammy stressed that if progress is not made on a ceasefire in Gaza, Britain will take steps to recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly this September.
