Palestinians Considering Seeking UN Condemnation of Settlements

RAMALLAH, April 24, 2012 (WAFA) - PLO Executive Committee member Saeb Erekat Tuesday said that the Palestinian leadership is considering the possibility of taking the issue of Israeli settlement activities before the United Nation’s Security Council.

The Israeli government has set up a committee headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to look into the possibility of legalizing three settlement outposts built without government approval in the West Bank.

Erekat told voice of Palestine radio that the Palestinian leadership is considering going to the Security Council to seek a resolution condemning the Israeli settlement activities.

He strongly condemned the Israeli government’s decision to legalize the three settlements, considering it a war crime.

He called on the Israeli government to choose between peace and settlements because the two cannot be combined.

“If Israel is unable to make the distinction between peace and settlements, it has doomed the two-state solution,” he said.
