RAMALLAH, April 23, 2012 (WAFA) - The total number of guests in Palestinian hotels was 500,000, spending 1.25 million nights during 2011, a report by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said Monday.
It said 37% of the guests were from European Union member states, 11% were Palestinian and 9% were from US and Canada.
The number of hotel guests grew between 2001 until 2010, but was lower by 12% during 2011 compared with the previous year.
Room occupancy was 26% in 2011 -- 42% in Jerusalem, 35% in the central West Bank area, 21% in the northern West Bank area, 15% in the southern West Bank and 4% in Gaza Strip hotels.
There were eight hotels operating within the Palestinian Territory in 2011 in the northern West Bank, 27 hotels in the central West Bank, 28 hotels in the Jerusalem area, 28 hotels in the south of the West bank and 12 hotels in the Gaza Strip.
