Newspapers Review: Israeli Report to Donors Meeting Dominates Dailies

RAMALLAH, March 19, 2012 (WAFA) – Al-Quds prime front page headline Monday highlighted an Israeli report to the Ad-Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) claiming that the Palestinian Authority is still dependent on foreign aid and is not sufficiently stable to meet the standards of a well-functioning state.

The three dailies featured the item saying Israel will present the report to the AHLC meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, but al-Hayat al-Jadida’s main focus was the deteriorating health condition of Hana Shalabi, the Palestinian prisoner who has been on an open-ended hunger strike for 33 days protesting her administrative detention.

Al-Ayyam daily reported that Hamas accused the Egyptian intelligence of obstructing fuel supplies entering the Gaza Strip to run the power plant. The newspaper also quoted the Egyptian ambassador to PA, Yasser Othman, saying Egypt will supply Gaza with fuel within days.

News from Syria appeared on all three front pages reporting on the military operations and bombings across the country. The death toll ranged from 37 dead featured in al-Quds and 26 in al-Ayyam.
