QALQILYA, March 16, 2012 (WAFA) – An Israeli army dog Friday attacked protesters during the weekly anti-settlements protests in the Qalqilya area village of Kufr Qaddoum, according to local activists.
They said the army fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the protesters soon after the demonstration began, injuring two.
The army also released a dog to attack the protesters, biting one of them who was arrested. [See video]
The army also arrested Murad Shtawi, a member of the village popular committee against the settlements, after he intervened to help the protester attacked by the dog.
The weekly protest in Kufr Qaddoum was dedicated to the memory of Rachel Corrie, an American protester who was killed after an Israeli bulldozer drove over her in Rafah in the Gaza Strip exactly nine years ago.
In other weekly protests in the West Bank, the Israeli army attacked protests in Bilin and Nabi Saleh in the Ramallah area, and another in al-Masara, in the Bethlehem area, where one photojournalist and five solidarity members were attacked and injured.
In Nabi Saleh, three protesters were injured, including an Israeli woman who was hit in the head by a rubber-coated metal bullet. She was taken to Ramallah hospital for treatment.
A large army force had earlier entered the village and sprayed a foul-smelling liquid known as the Skunk from a water cannon.
The army had in the night raided the village, the fifth in one week.
In Bilin, protesters marking the ninth anniversary for the killing Corrie and supporting Hana Shalabi, the prisoners on hunger strike for 30 days protesting her administrative detention, marched in the village streets to the area the army has seized to build a wall on it.
The army fired tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades at the protesters and sprayed them with Skunk liquid. The protesters responded by throwing bad eggs at the soldiers, according to village activists.
Many participants, including international and Israeli supporters, suffered from the tear gas inhalation.
