RAMALLAH, March 13, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Tuesday focused on the situation in Gaza following four days of violence marked by Israeli shelling and missile retaliation.
Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli airstrikes killed seven Palestinians, including a child and an elderly Palestinian in the fourth day of the fighting, bringing the death toll to 25 since Friday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam printed pictures of injured Palestinian children receiving treatment in Gaza hospitals, while al-Quds printed a picture of the damage by an Israeli airstrike to a residential building in Jabaliya, north of Gaza City.
The dailies reported on international efforts and calls to a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza amid news reports of Israeli threats to escalate its military operations in the Strip. An Egyptian-mediated ceasefire went into effect at 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Al-Quds also focused on reports of a massacre by the Syrian troops killing around 50 women and children in the city of Homs. The daily featured the United Nations’ condemnation of violence in Syria.
Al-Quds editorial highlighted the situation in Gaza, called for an immediate end to the attacks against Palestinians, and condemned international indifference towards the death of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
