Newspaper Review: Dailies Highlight Russian-Chinese Veto against Arab League Draft Resolution

RAMALLAH, February 5, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Arabic Dailies Sunday highlighted the Russian-Chinese Veto against the Arab League’s draft resolution regarding the Syrian situation.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on Homs massacre, in which 260 Syrian were murdered and hundreds were injured.

They focused on the Security Council’s failure to reach a decision regarding the deteriorating situation in Syria, following the Russian-Chinese Veto against the draft resolution condemning the clashes and killings across Syria.

The two dailies printed photos of Syrians preparing for the funeral of the Homs massacre’s victims in al-Khalidiya neighborhood.

Al-Quds front page story highlighted Hamas' leader, Ismail Haniyeh’s departure hours before President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas Leader, Khaled Mishaal’s arrival in Doha to discuss formation of a new Palestinian government and implementation of the reconciliation agreement.

The paper printed a photo of Abbas and Jordan’s King Abdullah II during their meeting in Aqaba, in which they discussed peace talks held in Amman last month.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Secretary General of the Presidency, Tayeb Abdul Rahim, during his meeting with Former Italian Prime Minister, Massimo D'Alema, saying “Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu must choose between peace and settlement activities.”

Al-Quds editorial called for dialogue between the Syrian government and its opposition sponsored by Arab countries to end the mass chaos that will not affect Syria alone.
