RAMALLAH, November 14, 2011 (WAFA) – Chinese leader Hu Jintao cabled President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday to congratulate him on the occasion of the Palestinian Declaration of Independence and support his bid to gain full membership of the United Nations.
The Chinese leader wished the Palestinians success in establishing their independent state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital, that would live in peace with Israel.
The Palestinians have applied on September 23 for full membership in the UN, but their bid has faced strong opposition from the United States. China was one of the countries that said it would vote in favor of the membership.
Every November 15, Palestinians mark the declaration of independence that the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat had announced in Algiers in 1988.
A national holiday has been declared for Tuesday marking the anniversary of the 23rd declaration.
