Ramallah Municipality Names Street to Honor Mandela

RAMALLAH, July 22, 2009 (WAFA)- In observance of Nelson Mandela day in Palestine on the occasion of his 91st anniversary,  the Ramallah Municipality named a street to honor Mr. Nelson Mandela  at Attira area in the city.

 

In the ceremony, the deputy of South African Representative Office to the Palestinian National Authority Mr. Royce Kuzwayo and former Foreign Minister, Mr. Nasser Al Qudwa had remembered the freedom fighter in a very appreciated  and valuable words.

 

Volunteers who were  at the naming event planted trees at the sides of the street  after the Ramallah Mayor, Mrs. Janet Michael and the Deputy of South Africa inaugurated officially Mandela Street.

 

“Naming a street in a Palestinian city is one of  many ways to keep remembering the freedom fighter, who kept looking for justice, democracy, and human rights for more than 27 years, spending also more than 20 years in  jail. Mandela fight for the freedom and getting rid of racist regime”  Mr. Kuzwayo said. “Mandela was symbol of freedom as Yasser Arafat is, this common and special relationship between the two people gives more meaning  and honor to this event.”
