Israeli PM: Gaza Situation is Approaching 'Crossroads'

TEL AVIV, May 18, 2008, (WAFA)-Prime Minister Israeli PM Ehud Olmert said that Israel's response to the ongoing rocket fire from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel would very soon be decided, Haaretz reported Sunday.

At the opening of the weekly cabinet meeting Sunday morning, PM added that 'it would be wrong to go into detail and hold discussions through newspaper headlines - suffice it to say that we are convinced that this situation in the south cannot be allowed to continue - we are approaching a crossroads on a decision of how things will be handled,' the prime minister told the cabinet.

Israeli officials have recently been in discussion with Egyptian mediators about reaching a cease-fire. But continuing violence has raised calls in Israel for military action in Gaza.
