PCBS: Palestinian Consumer Price Index Increase 1.49% in April 2008

RAMALLAH, May 14, 2008, (WAFA)-Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said on Wednesday that the overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory with its 2004 base year (2004=100) reached 120.45 in April 2008

 

In a press release, PCBS added that 1.49% increased relative to March 2008, and increased by 11.61% compared to April 2007 . In the first four months of 2008 the average increase of prices was 9.31% compared to the corresponding period of year 2007. 

 

PCBS revealed that analysis of consumer price developments for April indicates increases in the following major expenditure groups:

  • Food and soft drinks:                                                        + 2.67 %
  • Al Coholic Beverages and tobacco:                                   + 0.23 %
  • Textiles, clothing and footwear:                                         + 1.85 %                     
  • Housing:                                                                         + 0.59 %
  • Furniture, household goods                                              + 0.21 %
  • Transportation                                                                 + 1.53 %
  • Communications                                                             + 0.36 %
  • Restaurants and cafes                                                      + 0.92 %
  • Miscellaneous goods and services                                     + 0.13 %

It said that at the same time, there were declines in other major expenditure groups including:

  • Medical care                                                                    - 0.07 %
  • Recreational, cultural goods & services                              - 0.24 %

PCBS concluded that Palestinian Territory regions experienced different overall CPI developments as follows:

  • Remaining West Bank:                                                      + 1.51%
  • Gaza Strip:                                                                       + 1.75%
  • Jerusalem:                                                                         + 1.38%
