Babacan: Israeli Embargo and Blockade will Worsen Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
ANKARA, February 16, 2008 (WAFA)- Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said that the Israeli embargo and blockade on the Gaza Strip will worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In his speech, Babacan welcomed the Annapolis process that re-launched the stalled peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians and warned that radicals will win if the peace process failed.
“We knew that this process will not be easy and that many obstacles will come up. The success rests on the concerned parties' determination and will to continue negotiations,†Babacan said.
He mead it clear that If the Annapolis process fails, radicals will win and the price of failure could be serious. People in the region should live and work together, adding that there is no other alternative for an agreed solution.
Babacan also repeated the Turkish government's concerns about the Israeli blockade of Gaza, urging Israeli government to stop its current policies that harmed the Middle East peace process and to lift the embargo on Gaza.
