Arab FMs Urge Israel To Stop Settlement for Sake of Peace
CAIRO, January 8, 2008 (WAFA) - Arab Foreign Ministers urged Israel to halt its settlement activities in a bid to breathe life into the Middle East peace process.
The call came during the Ministers' meeting at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. They urged Israel to start the monitoring process that was agreed at the Annapolis summit last year, warning that failure to do so would hinder any process in the steps towards creating a Palestinian state.
Amr Moussa, head of the Arab League, warned: “If settlement activities continued, we all will lose confidence in the so-called peace process."
Arabs have been asking questions of Israel following the Annapolis summit, because although there was a commitment to resume talks on ‘final status issues’, which included the disputed settlements, Israel has appealed for tenders to extend one area in East Jerusalem.
