Rafah Crossing Opens today

RAFAH, August 10, 2006 (WAFA)- The European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) announced Thursday the opening of the Crossing at 8:30 am until 8 pm in the evening.

In a statement, received by WAFA, EUBAM added that the opening of the crossing is the result of European Union's efforts between the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and the Israeli government to allow humanitarian situations departure from the Gaza Strip to Egypt only.

EUBAM said it made assiduous efforts in consultations with the interested Parties to reopen the Border Crossing Point.

The Rafah Border Crossing has been closed for normal operations since 25 June. EUBAM said efforts resulted in it being open on 18 and 19 July for humanitarian traffic from Egypt to the Gaza Strip and over 5,000 people crossed.
