RAMALLAH, September 1, 2025 (WAFA) – Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the official spokesperson for President Mahmoud Abbas, affirmed that any annexation or settlement activity by Israel is illegitimate, condemned, and unacceptable, warning that such actions undermine all efforts to achieve security and stability in the region and worldwide.
Abu Rudeineh described attempts to annex the West Bank and impose Israeli sovereignty as blatant violations of international law and United Nations resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and 2334 (2016), which invalidate any attempts to legitimize Israel's unlawful occupation of Palestinian land.
He stressed that the Israeli government, through these practices and others, aims to undermine efforts to halt the war against Palestinians in Gaza, curb attacks in the West Bank, eliminating any prospects for a two-state solution supported by the international community.
Abu Rudeineh called on the international community to take practical and serious measures to prevent Israel from executing its plans, to recognize the State of Palestine, and to implement UN resolutions affirming the Palestinian people's inalienable right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He reiterated that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and that the occupation and colonial settlements are illegal under international law, relevant UN resolutions, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
Abu Rudeineh also urged the U.S. administration not to encourage Israel to continue these dangerous and irresponsible actions.
