SOLANA: Mutual Agreement can only Solve Final Issues
BRUSSELS, April 15, 2004 (WAFA) - European Union High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), Javier Solana said Thursday that the final status issues can only be resolved by mutual agreement between the two Palestinian and Israeli parties.... In a comment made after the meeting between President Bush and Sharon in Washington, Solana indicated that the EU heads of state and government would not recognize any change to the pre-1967 borders adding that any permanent settlement must include an agreed, just, fair and realistic solution for the refugee issue.... Solana reiterated EU commitments to a negotiated agreement resulting in two viable sovereign and independent states as the only way to achieve permanent and comprehensive peace.... He added that the EU will continue to be the major contributor to the reconstruction and long term development of the future Palestinian state.... Regarding Sharon's proposals on disengagement from Gaza, Solana said that his proposals represent an opportunity to restart the implementation of the Road Map peace plan as endorsed by the UN Security Council....
