Crossing with Jordan to remain open for time being, but may close any moment – spokesman

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, March 10, 2020 (WAFA) – The Karama/Allenby/King Hussein bridge crossing between Palestine and Jordan will remain open for the time being for departing and arriving despite yesterday’s reports of its closure for departing only, today said Ibrahim Melhem, spokesman for the Palestinian government.

Speaking on the official Palestine TV, Melhem stressed that talk about closing the border with Jordan yesterday over coronavirus outbreak was intended as an alarm to people in order to either leave or return home as soon as possible since the crossing may close at any time and without prior notice.

“The closure of the crossings yesterday served as a warning to citizens, both departing and arriving, that at any moment the crossings might be completely closed because we do not know the developments of this epidemic and how international measures and those by the neighboring countries may deal with this issue,” he said.

The Karama crossing is the only international exit way for millions of Palestinian citizens in the West Bank. It is nevertheless controlled by Israel and Jordan only.
