BEIJING, Tuesday, November 19, 2019 (WAFA) – China today called on the United States to make constructive efforts in the Middle East conflict rather than complicate the situation.
Responding to a question on US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying yesterday that the establishment of Israeli settlements is not inconsistent with international law, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said the settlements issue is one of the major issues in negotiations between Palestine and Israel regarding the final status.
“According to UN Security Council Resolution 2334, it is against the international law to establish settlements in the occupied territory of Palestine, including East Jerusalem,” he said in the daily briefing. “In light of the severe situation between Palestine and Israel, China calls on the US to carry out its responsibilities, make constructive efforts and avoid escalating confrontation or further complicating this issue.”
