Newspapers review: Seize of over 3,000 dunams of Palestinian land focus of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, Friday, November 1, 2019 (WAFA) – The Israeli military’s decision to seize over 3,000 dunams of Palestinian land in the West Bank districts of Hebron and Jenin dominated the front page headlines in Friday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

Al-Quds reported that Israeli occupation authorities distributed a notice to Palestinians informing them of its plan to seize over 3,000 dunams of Palestinian land of Yaabad town, southwest of Jenin, and to the east of Yatta town in the southern Hebron district.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida elaborated that Israeli occupation authorities Yabbad and Yatta towns of their intention to seize 3,409 dunams of Palestinian land.

The dailies also reported that Israel has approved the construction of 2,342 new settler units in West Bank settlements.

They also reported that Israeli artillery struck two outposts for the Palestinian resistance in the besieged Gaza Strip purportedly in retaliation for a projectile launched from Gaza.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israeli forces rounded up 12 Palestinians, including prominent lawmaker Khalida Jarrar, in multiple West Bank raids. According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, detainees totaled 16.

Furthermore, the dailies highlighted the ongoing detention of Hiba al-Labadi, a Jordanian citizen who holds a Palestinian identity card and who has been held in Israeli prison since August 20 and on a hunger strike for 38 days.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported the Prisoners’ Affairs Committee warning of the further deterioration of al-Labadi’s health condition, with al-Quds reporting Palestinian-Israeli lawmaker Ahmad Tibi confirming that her morals are high.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israeli police cracked down on a rally in solidarity with al-Labadi at Damascus Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Al-Ayyam reported Physicians for Human Rights Israel calling for transferring al-Labadi to the hospital.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Palestinians staged a rally in the West Bank city of Ramallah urging international human rights organizations to intervene to protect Palestinians in Israeli detention.

The dailies said that Israeli forces took the measurements of the family houses of Palestinian prisoners Samer Arbeed and Waleed Hantash during a raid into Ramallah city.

According to al-Quds, the Palestinian Finance Ministry has wired NIS10 million (about $3 million) to Jerusalem’s Augusta Victoria Hospital, also known as al-Mutala Hospital, to pay off part of the debt it owes the facility.

It said that 145 Israeli settlers barged their way to Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

The dailies said that the Israeli military prosecution has decided to bury the bodies of Mesbah Abu Sbeih and Fadi Qanbar in the so-called cemeteries of numbers.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that the Israeli occupation authorities denied a German parliamentarian access to Gaza. The parliamentarian was identified as Achim Kessler.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Israel is worried that a European Court of Justice’s ruling in November will force labeling of illegal settlements produce.

According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, President Mahmoud Abbas sent a cable of condolences to his Pakistani counterpart Arif Alvi over the victims of the train explosion.

It added that he received an invitation to attend the Christmas midnight mass according to the Gregorian Calendar in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that a Palestinian was sentenced to imprisonment for five years for attempting to sell Palestinian land to a foreign country.

Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee Saeb Erekat was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that elections are a due nation requirement.

Member of Fatah Central Committee Azzam al-Ahmad was also reported stressing that elections would not be held at all if they don’t encompass East Jerusalem.
