Sixteen Palestinians detained from West Bank

JERUSALEM, Wednesday, July 03, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces conducted multiple overnight raids across the West Bank and detained 16 Palestinians, said the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

PPS confirmed in a press statement that eight Palestinians were detained from Jerusalem district.

WAFA correspondent identified three of the detainees as residents of Abu Dis town, east of Jerusalem, and three others as residents of Shufat neighborhood.

Meanwhile, PPS said that three Palestinians were detained in several raids in Ramallah and al-Bireh district.

WAFA correspondent identified one of the detainees as a former prisoner from Jifna village, north of Ramallah city.

He added that Israeli military raids were conducted in the Ramallah neighborhoods of al-Tireh and Batn al-Hawa, where soldiers ransacked several houses. No detentions were reported though.

In the southern West Bank, PPS said that an Israeli military force rounded up two Palestinians from Bethlehem district.

In the northern West Bank, Israeli military vehicles raided Dhanaba neighborhood, east of Tulkarem, where soldiers detained a Palestinian.

PPS also confirmed that a similar military raid was carried out in Qabatiya town, south of Jenin, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
