Foreign Minister receives new European Representative for Middle East Peace Process

RAMALLAH, July 8, 2025 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, met on Tuesday with the new European Union Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, Christophe Bigot, at the Ministry's headquarters in Ramallah.

Minister Shahin congratulated Bigot on assuming his new role and discussed the ongoing atrocities and suffering in the occupied Palestinian territories, including the massacres, genocide, displacement, and starvation.

She highlighted Israeli policies aimed at undermining the Palestinian government's efforts, including the withholding of tax revenues and attacks on Palestinian villages, cities, and refugee camps.

Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, Shahin stressed that the Palestinian people are facing unprecedented genocide and displacement. She urged the European Union to take immediate, urgent, and more decisive actions to halt the ongoing genocide, displacement, and starvation in Palestine, and to collaborate with all parties to ensure the Palestinian government can assume its responsibilities in Gaza.

Minister Shahin also underscored the importance of translating the EU's policies into concrete actions that would foster a just peace by establishing an independent Palestinian state.

For his part, the new European representative discussed the EU’s stance on recent political developments in Palestine, reaffirming the EU’s support for the Palestinian government and the State of Palestine, and its commitment to the two-state solution as the foundation for peace.
