Israeli forces attack olive harvesters, supporters in village near Nablus

NABLUS, October 28, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli forces attacked on Saturday Palestinian farmers and supporters as they harvesting olives in the Nablus area village of al-Sawiyeh, according to Ghassan Daghlas, a local official.

He told WAFA that the soldiers assaulted a Palestinian woman volunteer and an international solidarity member as they helping the farmers harvest olives in village land located near the settlement of Eli, south of Nablus.

Daghlas said the soldiers attempted to arrest the international activist.

Solidarity groups often accompany Palestinian farmers to land close to illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank to provide them with assistance and protection from settler attacks.

The olive harvest season is considered a major source of income to thousands of Palestinian families in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Humanitarian agencies regularly document Israeli settler and state violence and restrictions against Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest season.
