GAZA, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 (WAFA) – Schools and universities in the Gaza Strip were called off today due to the current tension in the area in light of the Israeli assassination of a top leader in the Islamic Jihad movement, said Gaza’s Ministry of Education and High Education and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
At the same time, Israeli authorities closed Karm Abu Salem/Kerem Shalom commercial crossing and Beit Hanoun/Erez crossing until further notice, according to Raed Fattouh, head of the official committee responsible for following up on the entry and exit of goods into and from Gaza.
Schools in Israeli towns bordering the Gaza Strip were also suspended as Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza exchanged rocket fire and as an escalation on the ground is expected for further complicate the situation in and around the Gaza Strip and possibly lead to an all-out war.
