Shtayyeh says gradual disengagement from the occupation in process

TUBAS, Friday, October 25, 2019 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said today that his government was applying a model of gradual disengagement from the Israeli occupation in all fields.

Speaking during a popular resistance event in Al-Far’aa refugee camp, near the town of Tubas in the West Bank, Shtayyeh said this engagement will be based on boosting domestic production and halting all imports from Israel. For instance, he said, imports from countries other than Israel increased by 16% in the last seven months.

He pointed out that the Palestinian government also stopped all medical transfers to Israeli hospitals in order to achieve the disengagement, pointing out that these transfers cost the Palestinian treasury about $150.5 million in 2018.

“Efforts made in the field of popular resistance demonstrate that we have one map based on a bilateral strategy: the [Israeli] occupation should remain uncomfortable, and it [Israel] has to pay a price for its occupation,” he remarked during the event.
