Israeli settlers attack Palestinian school south of Nablus

NABLUS, Tuesday, March 05, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli settlers Tuesday afternoon attacked a Palestinian high school in the northern West Bank village of Urif, south of Nablus, said a municipal source.

Member of Urif village council Adel al-Amer told WAFA that scores of settlers attacked and stormed Urif Secondary School for Boys before besieging the educational staff inside the school.

Settlers also attacked with stones the civilian houses in the eastern section of the village, sparking confrontations with the villagers.

Israeli forces opened fire towards the villagers who attempted to fend off the settlers’ attack. No injuries were reported though.

The settlers reportedly came from Yitzhar, an illegal settlement inhabited by hardcore fanatic Jews.

Settler violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.

Settlers‘ violence includes property and mosque arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, attacks on vulnerable homes, among others.

Between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis live in Jewish-only settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law.

All settlements across the West Bank are illegal under international law, particularly article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which establishes that the occupying power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.
