RAMALLAH, Friday, May 24, 2019 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas offered congratulations to the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, on his party‘s winning of the general election yesterday which secured him a second term in office.

Official data from the Election Commission showed Modi‘s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 303 of the 542 seats, up from 282 it had won in 2014. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won 351 seats.

In a cable sent to Modi, President Abbas wished him all profound success in all the goals he and the Indian people are seeking. He also thanked India for its unwavering support for the Palestinian people, their just cause and their struggle for statehood and freedom.

The President also said he was looking forward towards enhancing and consolidating the mutual cooperation and coordination between Palestine and India, towards fulfilling the common interests of the two nations.
