RAMALLAH, Saturday, April 13, 2019 (WAFA) – Over 400 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails remained today on their sixth day of hunger strike demanding better prison conditions as negotiations with the Israel Prison Service (IPS) continue, according to Amani Sarahna, from the Palestinian Prisoner Society.

She told WAFA that there are some hurdles in the way of the negotiations the two sides are trying to overcome.

The prisoners are demanding removal of telephone jamming devices they insist are hazardous to their health, installing public phones in the prisons, ending the isolation of prisoners punished in the recent wave of unrest in the prisons, and better medical treatment, among others.

While some 400 prisoners are currently on hunger strike, their number may increase comes April 17, the Palestinian Prisoner Day, and the strike may also include refusing to drink water, which could cause quick health deterioration.
