Russian official discusses intra-Palestinian reconciliation with Fatah member

 

MOSCOW, Monday, February 11, 2019 (WAFA) – Azzam al-Ahmad, member of Fatah Central Committee and the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), met in Moscow with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov to discuss intra-Palestinian reconciliation prior to a meeting in Russia for the Palestinian factions.

Russia invited all the Palestinian political factions, particularly Fatah and Hamas, for talks on reconciliation and ending their division scheduled to last for one week starting on Wednesday.

Ahmad thanked Russia for supporting the Palestinian struggle for independence and Palestinian rights, as well as its help in bringing the Palestinian factions together for talks on reconciliation.

He also thanked Russia for refusing to take part in the upcoming Warsaw conference on the Middle East called for by the United States, which the Palestinians are boycotting.

Bogdanov, who is also Russian President’s envoy to the Middle East, said in the meeting with Ahmad that Russia supports the position of President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership toward peace, stressing the importance of ending the division based on the political program of the PLO.

He also stressed that Russia is ready to do all it can to find a just solution for the Palestinian cause based on the two-state solution and international resolutions.
