SALFIT, Saturday, December 29, 2018 (WAFA) –Elyas Saleh Yasin, 22, whose body was handed over to his family after being withheld for more than two months, was laid to rest on Saturday in his hometown of Bidia in the West Bank.
Hundreds of Palestinians took part in the funeral procession which set off from his home in the village. They chanted slogans that condemned Israel forces’ extrajudicial killings of Palestinians.
Yasin’s body was released by Israeli military on Friday and handed over to the Palestinian Red Crescent near the town of Salfit in the occupied West Bank. He was shot dead by Israeli forces on October 15 outside the village of Hares, near Salfit.
Israeli authorities have escalated the policy of withholding Palestinian bodies killed by Israeli forces, claiming that funerals of Palestinians had provided grounds for “incitement” against Israel.
Dozens of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces are still withheld in Israeli mortuaries despite calls by human rights groups on Israel to release them.
