Registration in social security fund not an obligation until January 15, 2019

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 (WAFA) – Registration in the social security fund for the private sector will not be required until January 15, 2019, but registration remains open for those who want to go ahead and register, according to the outcome of a meeting held on Tuesday at Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah’s office.

Hamdallah met with members of the coordinating council of the professional s to discuss the recently enacted Social Security law. The meeting was held in the presence of Minister of Labor Mamoun Abu Shahla, Minister of Economy Abeer Odeh, Minister of Culture Ihab Bseiso and the director of the Retirement Authority Majed al-Helo.

According to a statement from the prime minister’s office, the representatives of the professional s expressed their views on the social security law, “while emphasizing the importance of its application because of its advantages to all beneficiaries from the law.”

The statement added: “It was unanimously agreed to continue the dialogue, taking into account that registration in the law will not be obligatory until January 15, 2019, while keeping registration open to those who wish.to do that. During the dialogue period, all the issues and requested changes will be discussed to reach the amendments that will be agreed upon and to apply them retroactively.”
