RAMALLAH, Saturday, October 20, 2018 (WAFA) – Over 130 Palestinians were injured when Israeli soldiers opened fire at protesters on the border fence between Gaza and Israel on Friday, reported the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on the front page of their Saturday issue.
They, however, quoted the Israeli army saying that the protests were the least intense in recent weeks.
The dailies also highlighted the protests in the West Bank, where a number of Palestinians were also hurt when Israeli soldiers cracked down on the weekly anti-settlements, anti-wall protests in various areas, but giving more emphasis to the crackdown on the protest at Khan al-Ahmar village, east of Jerusalem.
The dailies said Israeli forces attacked the participants in the Khan al-Ahmar protest, sprayed them with pepper spray and beat some to them causing bruises and injuries, including the Palestinian Authority official in charge of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Committee, Walid Assaf.
Al-Quds highlighted reaction to the US decision to merge its Jerusalem consulate with its embassy, which it moved to Jerusalem in May, with the paper quoting Palestinian officials describing this move as a violation of international law.
It reported the sermon at Al-Aqsa Mosque calling for liberating Jerusalem from Israeli rule and that sale of city property to Israeli settler should be stopped.
It also published a statement by the head of churches in Jerusalem protesting a law that would lead to seizing church property, while al-Hayat al-Jadida said Kairos Palestine rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks on the situation of Christians in Palestine.
Al-Ayyam reported on this story and said in another story that, according to the attorney representing American-Palestinian student Lara Alqasem, the battle is ongoing against the Israeli law targeting boycott activists.
It reported on a protest in Jordan demanding cancelling of leases of Jordanian property to Israelis.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on a protest in Melbourne, Australia against government intention to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
It said the Palestinian International Cooperation Agency (PICA) was named at coordinator of the cooperation agencies of member states in the Islamic Development Bank for 2019.
It quoted President Mahmoud Abbas stressing, after meeting Jordan’s minister of energy, the importance of cooperation and coordination between Jordan and Palestine.
The three papers also reported on developments with the Khashoggi case but the papers came out before the break in news in which Saudi Arabia admitted that Khashoggi was dead.
