RAMALLAH, July 30, 2018 (WAFA) – News about the release of Palestinian civil resistance icon teen Ahed Tamimi from Israeli jails after serving eight months was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Monday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said Tamimi was free and strong and published a picture of her with President Mahmoud Abbas, who received her and her family at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
The President praised Tamimi and described her as a model of the Palestinian struggle for freedom, independence and statehood, stressing that nonviolent resistance, which Tamimi embodies, has proven to be an ideal and vital weapon in facing the repression of the Israeli occupation.
Al-Ayyam and al-Quds reported that two Palestinian youths were killed on Sunday when an Israeli drone fired a missile at a group of people near Jabaliya town, in northern Gaza Strip.
The papers said that Israeli naval forces Sunday intercepted a boat with medical supplies attempting to break Israel’s 11-year blockade of the Gaza Strip. The organizers of the Freedom Flotilla said Israeli navy intercepted the boat, which was named al-Awda (Return), surrounded it, and seized boxes of medical supplies it carried on board before towing it to the Israeli port of Asdod near Gaza.
A statement by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was published in al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam. He said that Egypt does not accept what the Palestinians do not, and that it will not agree on something that the Palestinian Authority does not agree on.
Al-Quds published a statement by head of the Detainees Affairs Commission Issa Qaraqe. He said in a speech at the Arab International Forum for Palestinian Justice in Beirut that President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership will continue to support the families of prisoners and of those killed or wounded by Israeli military.
Israeli authorities are expected to spend millions of Israeli shekels on a so-called Jewish heritage center that is planned to open in the neighborhood of Silwan, which borders the Old City of Jerusalem, as reported in al-Ayyam and al-Quds.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that five prisoners are still on hunger strike in Israeli jails, four of which are administrative detainees.
It said Israel released two Italian artists it had arrested for painting a portrait of the civil protest icon Ahed Tamimi on Israel’s segregation wall in Bethlehem and cancelled their visa.
