RAMALLAH, July 29, 2018 (WAFA) – News about the PLO Executive Committee meeting that took place in the city of Ramallah hit the front pages of three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said on Saturday following its meeting in Ramallah, the occupied West Bank, that the Jewish nation-state law, which was recently approved by the Israeli parliament, represents the basis for the US-led “ultimate deal.”
The PLO Executive Committee said, according to the the dailies, that it will continue to pay monthly salaries to the families of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and of the Palestinians killed by Israeli forces.
The papers said that speaking at the commencement of the PLO Executive Committee meeting, President Mahmoud Abbas said a Palestinian delegation will be heading to Cairo next Sunday to convey a clear Palestinian position regarding the Palestinian national reconciliation file.
“There are important issues for which we must make crucial and serious decisions over the next two months. We have already talked about these issues in the Palestinian National Council, and will also be presented to the Central Council to be ready [before we discuss them] in the United Nations to take decisions on them,” the President said.
The three dailies said that Palestinian teen Momen Fathi al-Hams, 17, died on Saturday of wounds sustained the day before during the March of Return protests at Gaza to the east of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
Al-Quds said that a group of Jewish settlers assaulted on Saturday a 60-year-old Palestinian man in the southern West Bank city of Hebron.
Al-Ayyam reported the the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) employees in the Gaza Strip have refused to sign new contracts in protest against the agency’s recent decisions to stop some of its programs, reduce services provided to Palestinian refugees and end contracts of some 1000 employees working on the emergency program in Gaza.
Israeli forces Saturday detained the Italian painters who drew a mural depicting jailed Palestinian teenager, Ahed al-Tamimi, on the Israeli separation wall to the north of the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem, according to al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida.
The papers said that Tamimi is expected to be released from Israeli jails on Sunday after she was detained in December 2017 for confronting Israeli soldiers who had forced their way into her family‘s yard in Nabi Saleh village to the north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
