RAMALLAH, July 26, 2018 (WAFA) – The killing of three Palestinians in Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip dominated the front page headlines in the dailies on Thursday.
The dailies said that three Palestinians were killed and another was critically injured in Israeli artillery shelling, east of Gaza.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam added that an Israeli soldier was wounded by a Palestinian sniper, east of Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip.
Additionally, the demonstration by hundreds of UNRWA employees who work has been terminated in Gaza hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
Al-Quds reported in this regard that the UN agency has started the termination of 1,000 employees in Gaza.
Al-Ayyam said that the UNRWA Staff Union has started a labor dispute with the UN agency following the agency’s decisions to terminate and downgrade the contracts of thousands of employees.
Al-Quds added that UNRWA Staff Union has called for a general strike at the agency’s headquarters today as well as for an open-ended sit-in involving employees from all sectors.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida published a photo for a Palestinian UN aid worker attempting to set himself on fire after being fired by the UN agency.
Furthermore, the dailies said that the Israeli government has approved the construction of 270 new settler units to the south and east of Bethlehem.
According to al-Quds, Israeli authorities moved the large boulder that collapsed from the Al-Buraq Wall, known as the Western or Wailing Wall for Jews, to the Al-Buraq Square.
It added that the US State Department has refused to comment on the Jewish Nation-State Basic Law.
According to al-Ayyam, Palestinian envoy to the UN Riyad Mansour described his US counterpart Nikki Haley as “being Israeli more than Israelis” in response for her remarks slamming Arab countries for purportedly not backing up their high-minded rhetoric on Palestine with cash.
It also reported the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov stating that Gaza is on the brink of economic and social collapse.
Moreover, al-Ayyam said that Israeli occupation authorities destroyed water pipelines supplying water to the northern Jordan Valley of Ras al-Ahmar with fresh water and razed the land to open a road for military use.
Highlighting other demolitions, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli occupation authorities demolished a kindergarten and a women center in Jabal al-Baba community, east of Jerusalem.
They also delivered demolition notices for four homes and two mosques in Bethlehem district.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the United Nations has nominated an American to lead an inquiry into the killing of Palestinian participants in the Great March of Return protests in Gaza by Israeli snipers.
