National Observatory: 100 earthquakes hit northern Tiberius and the Dead Sea, 15 on Monday

 

NABLUS, July 10, 2018 (WAFA) – Over 100 earthquakes were monitored in the northern areas of Lake Tiberius and the Dead Sea since last Tuesday, 15 of them occurred in the last 24 hours, the Nablus-based National Earthquake Observatory reported on Tuesday.

Walaa Ajaj, who monitors earthquake activities, told WAFA that the earthquakes that hit the region since last Tuesday ranged between 1 and 4.5 degrees on the Richter scale and that the vast majority were in the northern regions of Tiberius, while little tremors hit the Dead Sea area and Eilat.

He said 11 earthquakes hit the northern region of Tiberius during the past 24 hours, ranging between 1.5 and 3.1 degrees on the Richter scale, the most recent occurred at 11:42 pm with strength of 2 degrees and at a depth of 5 kilometers below sea level and 12 kilometers north of the city of Tiberius.

He noted that the Dead Sea region was hit by four light earthquakes ranging in strength between 1.5 and 2 degrees on the Richter scale.
