Newspaper Review: Israeli strikes on Gaza focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, June 10, 2018 (WAFA) – News about the Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, as well as news about the funerals of the four Palestinians who were killed during protests with Israeli soldiers hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.

Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the four Palestinians, including a minor, who were killed on Friday during the ongoing protests with Israeli soldiers at the eastern border of the Gaza Strip, were laid to rest in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli warplanes opened fire at a group of Palestinians as they were preparing balloons and kites with burning materials used to set fire in Israeli areas on the Israeli side of the Gaza-Israel border.

The United Nations General Assembly is expected to hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday at the request of the Arab members to vote on a resolution similar to a one previously vetoed by UNSC deploring Israel’s killing of Palestinians in Gaza, according to the dailies.

Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that the Israeli Cabinet is set to hold a meeting to discuss the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli High Court is set to hear petitions of dozens of Palestinians families living in the town of Silwan, Jerusalem, against being forced to evict their homes, as reported in al-Ayyam.

Omar Barghouti of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) said that Barcelona municipality’s call for an arms embargo on the Israeli “apartheid” system reflect the world’s awareness of the justice of the Palestinian cause and rejection of the Israel’s crimes, according to al-Quds.

Al-Ayyam said that Israeli soldiers Saturday evening assaulted Palestinian medics while they were attempting to reach the wounded in a traffic accident which occurred outside illegal Gush Etzion settlement, to the south of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent (PRC).

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam reported that demonstrations took place in Berlin in support of Palestine.
