RAMALLAH, June 7, 2018 (WAFA) – The employees of the Al-Bireh municipality in the West Bank ended a five-day strike on Thursday after a court verdict ruled that the strike was illegal and that the employees had to get back to work, said Hesham Shkukani, deputy mayor of the municipality.
Shkukani told WAFA that after negotiations to reach an agreement between the municipality and its employees failed, the municipality had to resort to the Palestinian judiciary that considered the strike as illegal and that the demands of the employees were “illegitimate”.
He added that an emergency plan was set up by the municipality to deal with the consequences of the strike, including to clean the piles of trash that have accumulated in the city as a result of the strike.
Shkukani said maintenance will also be conducted to electricity and sewage networks and that things would go back to normal within a few days.
